As one of the main coastal ports of Nantong Port, the Yangkou Port is located 16km outside the coast of Rudong County. The general depth of water of the sea-route is over 17m and the width over 2.2km; the west end of the sea-route penetrates into a shoal, forming a deepwater area (harbor basin) over 20m deep and with an area of about 10km²; there is a natural shoal (Xitaiyang Sha) about 1km away from the deepwater area and its area over 0m bathymetric line is about 6km², and a Sun Island may be built on this basis; the Sun Island is 16km away from the sea coast, the beachland within 3-4km away from the bank can be reclaimed as land with an area of 45km², forming a portside industrial area. Besides, east to the Sun Island there is a deepwater area, with the area where water is over 25m deep amounting to over 2 km². The depth of water in the sea-route between this deepwater area and the open sea is over 22m, and a 0.2 million ton bulk floating dock and 0.25 million ton crude oil single point mooring berth may be built.
